(+/-) - Explanation

Summary:

Major Traits

Hidden traits are rarely displayed outwardly, and thus few know about them.

Loyal {Cardinal} | Laid back | Noble | Devout | Lazy (Hidden!) | Critical (Hidden!) | Severe (Hypocritically) | Sarcastic (Sometimes)

( + )Loyal - As he understands the importance of order and believes strongly in the ideals of the Gang, Atlas is very loyal to the leader. He would put his life on the line for her in an instant, as well as anyone he is close to. He will not give out his loyalty freely, and will only follow those he strictly believes in or he thinks has the right to rule. He is also loyal to the gang, but even if the entire gang were in danger, he would try to save the leader first.

( + )Noble - High moral principles and ideas. He believes that the Gang is his life, and that the Gang is in the right in all conflicts. Additionally, he will serve the Gang as best as he can, as he believes that for the Gang to thrive, it needs to have a good police and good leaders. It's the largest reason he became a Henchman, because he did not trust anyone else to be dedicated.

( = ) Devout - He believes in all the gods and worships them. While he fears Nguvu, he still prays to her from time to time, but mostly prays to Elimu and Vita. He thinks that they must be kindly, or at least had saved him from death.

( = )Laid back - Unless it comes to stopping a fight among the Gang or defending something, he is not generally quick to excite or even particularly high-energy. He gets loads of adrenaline when he needs it, but generally doesn't really argue or anger easily. He often keeps his opinions to himself, especially during conflict.

( = )Severe - He applies this personality trait hypocritically. Mentally, he excludes himself from rules from time to time, but will enforce them harshly on other people. In his mind, the rules are what keeps things running smooth and steadily, and he will not hesitate to use his claws and teeth to enforce them. While sometimes he will include himself, and he usually follows the rules, he can on occasion break them in small ways or forget that they apply to him too, such as taking extra food or longer naps. However, most of the time he will follow them himself.

( - )Lazy - This trait is hidden, meaning that he keeps it to himself and may not even be aware of it.

If he can catch a break, you can bet he will be relaxing. It's not so much him wanting to shirk his duties as it is that he enjoys just lying around. He greatly enjoys just sitting around, staring at the sky and daydreaming. While he knows the Gang comes first and will usually get his work done, it's not uncommon to find him on the docks or relaxing somewhere as his work remains only partially done. He hides it well, though, and has a good amount of guilt about it. Additionally, it makes him Not ambitious, as he would never want all the responsibilities of being leader.

( - )Critical - This trait is hidden, meaning that he keeps it to himself and may not even be aware of it.

Always, he judges other people, though it's often a subconscious thing. He will often see them doing something and tell himself he can do it better, or think of how they could have been better at doing it. Sometimes, he even judges people by their looks or way of speaking. However, he always keeps it to himself, and is very good at not speaking his mind.

( - )Sarcastic - His sarcasm is a trait that comes out only when he is very worn out or fed up. When he gets pushed to the edge, he will often be scathing and sometimes even rude. Luckily, it doesn't come out often, as he has really offended others in the past.

Minor Traits:

    Trait: Application

History:

Before Birth:

Atlas's mother, Grace,  was pure Javanese, lightly colored for her breed. While she had a graceful body, she was not considered particularly beautiful, and thus had a very small ego. She stayed in a shell, afraid to reach out to anyone for fear they would scorn her.

That is, until she met the cat who would be their father.

Orion was also light, almost white in color with striking tabby stripes and spots. He took the time to talk to the female, and upon discovering her deep personality, began to fall in love. With his help, she became braver, no longer so afraid to make friends. She blossomed, and all in the Gang began to see her in a new light, beyond an ugly face and crippling shyness.

Before long, her belly began to swell with kits. She was afraid, afraid to be a mother and afraid they would not survive. She was anxious and restless, and did not eat enough before the birth. Because of this, the act of bringing five kits in to the world exhausted her. While she was barely strong enough to lick them clean, the kits were all strong but one, the runt of the litter. Her blood and her mate's had combined to create five perfect, ghostly pale kits.

  • Mother was shy, until she met Orion, her mate
  • Did the dirty, gave birth to five kits

Kithood:

Nonetheless, Grace was weak. She did not die, and in fact grew a little stronger, but never regained her former strength. And the Gang was not very appreciative of weakness. Again, she became more and more shunned as it became clear that she was all but unable to return to her former duties. She had enjoyed her trip into the limelight so much that it killed her inside to become nothing again. One night, she took her eldest, the firstborn kit, and crept away without so much as a word to her other children or mate. The kit was her one pride and joy, and the one thing she would take.

The other children were still too young to really understand. They'd just become old enough for solid food, and their father came to them every day to check on them. However, the youngest, the runt, was as weak as his mother, and wasted away without her presence. Atlas was the eldest of what was now just three kits, and he would never get over how he'd lost two siblings because of his selfish mother. He clung to his family, knowing that any of them could be lost at any moment. He considered his mother a traitor, and this made him desperate to follow all rules and orders to the letter, sometimes leading to him getting teased by his siblings. Yet his siblings did the same, in a way. Their father, too, was deeply upset by Grace’s betrayal. He taught them that loyalty was everything, and it rang true with them all. They all wanted to be loyal members of the Gang, and didn’t want anyone to think they were traitors just because of their mother.

  • Grace leaves Gang with eldest sibling
  • Youngest sibling dies
  • Taught by father that loyalty is utmost

Adolescences:

He became a Tyro, and his mentor knew he would be a good protector. He almost always listened to his mentor, and was a very serious pupil. He was very self-sacrificing, and looked upon the leaders and henchmen with adoration. Training slowly became his sole objective. He wanted to be strong so he could prove his worth to the gang, so that he could protect them when they needed. He was always bothering his mentor to go out at all times of the day to train. His siblings didn’t have quite that motivation, and he began to draw away from them.

Because of his nature, he was bullied a bit. It was never horrible, but one time it got out of control. He was chased deep in to town, and the other cats returned, leaving him lost. He encountered some rogues, who were not happy that he intruded. He was chased on to the docks, where the cats knocked over a lamp and started a fire. The rogues slammed him to the ground and fled. When he got back up, he had nowhere to go but into the water, and he wasn't a particularly good swimmer. It was only when he was hit in the face by burning rubble that he jumped, and through his confusion managed to swim to safety. He was in a lot of pain and very confused, and lay on the beach for nearly a whole day, delirious. He thought he saw the gods then, and in his fever dream he saw Nguvu trying to gouge out his eyes. However, Elimu and Vita saved him, and captured his soul, hurling it back into the mortal world. He didn't know whether it was reality or not, but it instilled in him a deep faith in the gods.

Eventually, a Gang patrol found him, delirious on the beach with a horrible raw burn on one entire side of his face. They carried him back, where he was treated to the best of the Daktari's abilities. Nonetheless, he was left with a long scar that forced one of his eyes mostly closed. He was told he was lucky he hadn't lost his sight in that eye or the fire hadn't spread more. At first, the sight in that eye was very blurry, and he was terrified that he wouldn't be able to continue in his chosen path. But with time, his vision returned almost completely, and it was only a little blurry when he was very tired or sometimes randomly.

His scar was a weight on him. Before long, he realized he could never really look at a kit without the poor thing shrinking away. It disfigured his face, and made him look a monster. He was wracked with depression, and his motivation began to die.

One night, he had another dream. He couldn’t even be really sure what it was about, or even remember it particularly clearly in the morning, but it was like something clicked in him. He began training with renewed vigor. So what if his face was deformed? He’d just become stronger, and prove that he was nothing that kits should fear. Surely the gods hadn’t saved him for nothing.

Training at a ridiculous pace, he tired out both his mentor and himself. He was determined, though. Some day he would serve the Gang with all he had in him. He wanted to become a savior, a cat the kits would admire rather than fear.

  • Became a Tyro
  • Desperate to train and grow stronger, sometimes bullied
  • Got chased into fire, burned face
  • Had hallucination about gods, became very devout
  • Recovered, resumed training with renewed vigor

Adulthood:

Though he was delayed by his accident, he soon became a Protector. He was ecstatic. He’d worried so much about being chosen as a hunter instead, but everyone could tell what he wanted to be. He was always volunteering for as many patrols as he could and working around the clock. During this time, however, he actually drew closer again to his siblings. They were all very close, having gone through a lot together, and he knew that he could always trust them to never flinch when they looked at his face. They were all full-fledged members of the gang, and as loyal to each other as they were to the gang.

All of his work was quickly noticed, and at a rather young age, Atlas became a Henchman. It was his proudest moment. Let them talk now of his disloyal mother. He pledged his life for the gang, and for October.

At the same time, though, a little thought wormed it’s way in to his head. He suppressed it, and wasn’t even really aware of it, but he thought himself better than the common gang members, and even better than his siblings. And again, he began to slip away. He would always be loyal to them, but no longer was he as close. If one had a problem, they would always go to the other, and not to him. It hurt him to no longer be as close as they once were.

  • Became Protector
  • Became Henchman
  • Grew farther away from siblings

  • [Length Sans Tail:] 66 cm/26 in
  • [Weight:] 4.5 kg/10 lbs

It’s moderately short in length, with the exception of his neck, face, and tail, where it is a little longer. His eyes are bright green. A large burn scar covers most of his left face, and it forces one of his eyes partially shut.
Scars:

  • [Face scar:] A shiny scar that forces his left eye partially shut. There are smaller and very faint pockmarks around it, but they’ve mostly healed over.
  • [General light scars:] None of his battles left him with particularly large scars, and most have healed over in to very faint lines. Mostly concentrated along belly and forelegs.

| Voice: | His voice isn’t as deep as one might think for his size, but it’s rather rumbly.

Notes:

Facts:

  • He has a habit of turning his head so that the right side is mostly facing the people he’s talking, to hide his scar. It’s completely subconscious.

Likes:

  • [ The town:] Atlas loves the smell of the salt and the amazing structures the humans built.
  • [Fish:] His favorite food because of their strong taste
  • [Wild onions and chives:]  Atlas loves food with a lot of flavor, and though he won’t eat huge mouthfuls, he likes little tastes of onions and chives and even some human foods with a kick.
Dislikes:

  • [The Tribe:] The gang is in the right, in Atlas’s mind, and will always be.
  • [Lost objects::] Though they fill him with awe, they make him very uncomfortable.
  • [Disloyalty:] The Gang is life.

Fears:

  • [Fire:] The thing that disfigured his face. He feared it even before that, yet he is strangely attracted to it. It’s so warm and gives off such light.
  • [Nguvu:] Read the history. He had a strange fever dream about her.
  • [The Lost Objects:] The idea of the eye frankly terrifies him, and he never wants to see it bleed. He’s afraid some day it will bleed for him. The heart also terrifies him. He would never lie to October, but he’s always afraid of it beating for him.

  • Be as close to his siblings as they are to eachother

The ferns parted as the pale apprentice slid through the undergrowth. This part of the territory was particularly forested, which made it more difficult to catch prey. However, the squirrel he'd been chasing had seen fit to escape to this grassy area. The grass tickled his nose, laced with the tantalizing scent of a young squirrel.

The grass was sparser up ahead, and the squirrel was on the ground, a pine nut clamped in it's jaws. It was trying to fit the nut in to it's cheek, and evidently having trouble. As it scratched at it, Ashenpaw shifted his legs, preparing to leap. Just as he did, it fit the nut, and looked up to see him moments away.

Ashenpaw straightened up, the creature clenched in his jaws. It was fat, and would do well feeding the elders. And hopefully his mentor would be proud of him.
